It was a long journey to Kyle Higashioka’s first big-league hit. But it was well worth the wait.
It took the catcher 10 years to make it to the bigs, after being selected by the New York Yankees in the seventh round of the 2008 MLB draft. But despite making his debut on April 10 against the Tampa Bay Rays, Higashioka didn’t get to bat in the game. In fact, he played in nine games for the Yankees in 2017 and never logged a hit.
